"The term "Nree" is a Bengali word meaning the human, the human species, irrespective of nation, race, religion, colour or sex the human being who is the center of the civilization. It is by the human thoughts and works and through the various forms of arts the universe is reflected each and everyday. The Nree's also have their share in this work and they believe in equality. The pathway of artistic practices is not seen as something external but it's a journey to discover our own root. The wealthy past is always a source of great inspiration, the present is the stage area of works and experiments and the future is never uncertain but full of unlimited possibilities..."

Nree started as Nree-Nattya, a theater group by some young students of various disciplines of Khulna University way back in the year 2000. Everyone had the same urge 'to do something together' with all the different backgrounds and we finally decided to create a students theater group. At the same time some of us had this passion for literature and we published a little magazine titled 'Da' (দ, it's the 18th consonant of Bengali alphabet). During the university days this group of students were actively involved into many activities from staging plays, publishing little magazines, arranging film shows, raising funds for to help the needy, and of course most importantly to raise our voice together along with the other students on any local or national issue. We used to call the members and well wishers of the Nree-Nattya as the 'Nree', and over the years we have got lots of people joining us and working together on many events.

In the year 2003 in a very tragic accident, a group of students died at the Kotka beach in the Sundarbans and we lost one of our greatest founder member, activist, poet, theater actor friend Tauhid Enam Apu. Later on the Tauhid Enam Foundation was formed in memory of our departed young comrade.

Now the 'Nree' stands as our common platform for all our fellow members, friends and well wishers involved in the Nree-Nattya, Da and Tauhid Enam Foundation. Together our journey continues as we continue to move on with our combined strength to reach our goals, to fulfill our dreams.
